UC Main, CIT-U trounce foes in CESAFI basketball
THE University of Cebu (UC)-Main Junior Webmasters and the Cebu Insitute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats scored contrasting wins in the basketball tournament of the CESAFI Season 26 Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night, September 8, at the Cebu Coliseum.
UC leaned on Jade Bialan to chalk up an easy 61-40 win over the Benedicto College Baby Cheetahs in the high school division action.
Bialan finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, one assist, and one steal as UC led by as many as 20 points in its season-debut.
Jay Xander Bulagsak and John Day Jorquia backed Bialan with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Axel Jospeh Oropisa was the only Benedicto player to score in twin digits with 17.
In the college division, the Wildcats stormed back from 27 points down to frustrate the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu Fighting Maroons, 71-70.
Axyl Casas starred in the win, sinking a buzzer-beating midcourt shot that sealed the outcome of the pulsating contest.
John Eimrod Rodulfa Casas led three other Wildcats in double figures with 15 points as the Donbel Belano-coached CIT-U improved to 2-0 (win-loss).
Braibon Ali Thompson added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Jerian Marc Abello contributed 10 markers while Casas tallied 10 points, including the game’s biggest basket.
UP-Cebu, which fell to 0-2, was led by AJ De Los Reyes with 15 points.(CCM)
