PBA game at SM Seaside Cebu Arena in the works

A HIGH-STAKE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) game at the SM Seaside Cebu Arena is already in the works.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial shared the good news for sports enthusiasts in Cebu when he flew in on Saturday, Oct. 17.

It was during the quick trip that Marcial had initial talks with the management of the newly opened arena. He then proceeded to the Cebu Coliseum to watch the match between the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles and the University of Cebu-Main Baby Webmasters in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Season 26 basketball tournament.

In a brief interview with reporters, Marcial said a semifinal game of the ongoing PBA Governors’ Cup could be held at the SM Seaside Arena in December. If not a semifinal match, it is also possible that one game of the best-of-seven Finals of the import-flavored conference will be staged at the sprawling facility.

"Napag-usapan na natin sa SM Seaside at ibang stakeholders. Sana matuloy na, baka isa sa finals games natin or sa semifinals sa December," Marcial said.

The PBA Governors’ Cup is about to end its elimination round but is set for another break to give way to another pair of games by Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. The PBA has already taken a two-month break due to Gilas’ participation in the Asian Games and the World Cup qualifiers.

The SM Seaside Cebu Arena recently hosted an East Asia Super League match, two Premier Volleyball League games, and a Spikers’ Turf match.(CCM)
