Daanbantayan sets minimum buying prices for hogs
THE Municipality of Daanbantayan in northern Cebu has set suggested minimum buying prices for live hogs and pork carcasses in the town.
Mayor Gilbert Arrabis Jr. issued an Executive Order (EO), directing meat vendors and individuals selling pork products to display their selling prices for consumers.
Under EO No. 52, series of 2026, the suggested minimum buying prices for live hogs are set at P250 per kilogram for hogs weighing 31 kilograms and below, P220 per kilogram for those weighing 32 to 49 kilograms, and P190 per kilogram for hogs weighing 50 kilograms and above.
For pork carcasses and other pork products, the prescribed prices are as follows: P180 per kilogram for pork carcasses, P200 for pork trotters, P200 for pork mask, P150 for pork head, P190 for pork bones, P200 for pork ribs, P230 for pork belly, P230 for regular pork meat, and P230 per kilogram for pork chops.
The minimum prices were established following a series of consultative meetings with local hog raisers, meat vendors, the Municipal Agriculture Office, and other stakeholders that began in September.
Hog raisers had raised concerns with the municipal government over the low prices of live hogs and pork, which they said were already affecting their livelihoods.
In response, the local government unit (LGU) convened a meeting with stakeholders to establish mutually agreed prices aimed at protecting both hog raisers and consumers.
Vendors are prohibited from selling or offering for sale any pork product that has not been slaughtered in an accredited slaughterhouse and subjected to mandatory meat inspection.
All hog raisers, traders, and pork vendors are advised to take note of the prescribed prices and comply with the relevant provisions of the executive order.(MyTVCebu)
