AN INTRIGUING duel will spice up the 24th installment of Kumong Bol-anon boxing series slated Feb. 28 at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

World-rated Joseph “The Hunter” Sumabong, the current World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific minimumweight champion, will take on Roldan Toyogon, a young prospect determined to get back on track.

The Sumabong-Toyogon match will be a 10-round non-title encounter under the 105-pound division that will serve as one of the undercards of the main event encounter between Regie Suganob and South African Siphamandla Baleni.

The 24-year-old Sumabong, Suganob’s stablemate at the PMI Boxing Gym, will be gunning for his fourth straight win. The heady fighter has not lost since losing to Goki Kobayashi in 2024 in Japan.

Sumabong recovered from that bitter loss by marking his return in Japan with a unanimous decision victory over Takero Kitano to capture the vacant WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight title.

Sumabong, who has nine wins and one loss with four knockout victories, is ranked No. 6 in the WBC, No. 9 in WBO, No. 10 in WBA, and No. 15 in the IBF minimumweight division.

On the other hand, the 25-year-old Toyogon is hoping to snap a three-fight losing slide with the two losses happening abroad.

Before falling into a slump, the Parañaque City native Toyogon went on a six-fight win streak that saw him capture the PBF Youth minimumweight title.

Toyogon has eight victories, two losses, and a draw. Four of his wins came via knockout.(CCM)
