Malabuyoc, Moalboal secure semis seats in Calderon hoops
MALABUYOC and Moalboal disposed of their respective quarterfinal opponents to advance to the semifinal round of the 1st Calderon Cup 7th District Inter-Municipalities Under-21 Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night, April 28, at the Malabuyoc Sports Complex in Malabuyoc, Cebu.
It was contrasting outings for Malabuyoc and Moalboal with the former handily defeating Ronda, 84-63, and the latter going through some anxious moments before edging Ginatilan, 73-67.
Inspired by the presence of Mayor Erlinda “Edang” Piedad, the Malabuyoc dribblers dominated Ronda right from the get go and posted leads as big as 28 points.
Jake Leo Quim collected 20 points, six rebounds, four steals, and four assists, Jayson Cabrera contributed 17 points, Jerry Castro added 12 points, and Joseph Velarde threw in 10 markers as Malabuyoc arranged a semifinal date with Alegria on Wednesday, May 6, at the Dumanjug Astrodome.
Jems Carl Catingan led Ronda with 18 points, while Charlie Bigno and Niel Cinco each contributed 10 points.
Moalboal, on the other hand, survived a match that featured 10 lead-changes and five ties to set up a semifinal duel with Dumanjug.
Lance Igorote powered Moalboal with 15 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and a steal while Jhon Ryan Abines put in 14 points and 12 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.
Leo Talledo and Kian Chym Garol tossed in 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
Ginatilan was led by James Miguel Tuason, who wound up with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and a steal. Jhon Verny Donque added 12 and Jason Monera and John Luis Mansueto each had 10 points.(CCM)
