THE San Miguel Beermen kissed their title hopes goodbye after succumbing to the Hiroshima Dragonflies, 63-94, in the East Asia Super League Home-and-Away Season 2 on Wednesday night, January 8.
The Beermen started flat and fell into a deep 18-30 hole after the opening period. They couldn’t cover from the faulty start and went on to suffer their fourth loss in as many games that formally booted them out of contention.
hiroshima, a champion in Japan B. League, snatched its fourth win in five games that earned them a spot in Group A.
Kejiro Mitani and Nick Mayo powered the Dragonflies with 18 points each. Kerry Blackshear Jr. collected 12 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists as Hiroshima banged away 14 three-pointers to secure the lopsided victory.
Torren Jones spearheaded the losing Beermen with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Cebuano big man June Mar Fajardo chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.
San Miguel heavily felt the absence of its other import Jabari Narcis, who did not join the squad in the Japan trip.
The Beermen still have two assignments left, wrapping up their EASL campaign against Hong Kong Eastern and Suwon KT.(CCM)
