TOP-PERFORMING athletes, teams and coaches from various sports will be given special citation awards in the 39th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Beer (SMB) Cebu Sports Awards on April 26 at the SM Seaside City Cebu.
Headed by its president, John Pages, SAC will be handing out 68 special citation awards from 21 different sports.
Leading the citation awardees are Troy Nathaniel Abing and Team Likha Anyo Espada y Daga for Arnis after an impressive stint in the Palarong Pambansa.
Also set to receive the same award are runners Asia Paraase, Artjoy Torregosa and Mark Mahinay, for their outstanding performances in the Palarong Pambansa and Private Schools Athletic Association Meet.
The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles, Abellana National School Girls team, Catmon Integrated School 3x3 Girls squad will also be feted for their accomplishments in basketball. Individual awardees for basketball are Roger Pogoy Nic Cabañero, and Nickson Cabañero.
Also to be recognized are pro boxers are John Kevin Jimenez, Jeo Santisima, Esneth Domingo, Reymart Tagacanao, Rodel Wenceslao, Alex Santisima Jr., Rhonvex Capuloy, Ian Paul Abne, and Berland Robles.
Amateur pugs Mark Ashley Fajardo, Cris Ivhan Espina, and AJ Basalo will also be awarded along with Michael Domingo, the coach of World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem.
Awardees for ches are the Toledo Xignex Trojans, Edelyn Vosotros, Kristina Concepcion Belano, and Mario Mangubat.
The tandems of Mitchloni Dinauanao and Francis Dave Sombal; Danieca Ansay and Nash Placencia; and Shadelle Hernandez and Rhyss Fajardo will receive awards for dancesport.
On the other hand, the Cebu Football Club (CFC) is getting a special citation for making it to the AFC Champions League for Football. The Don Bosco (DBTC)-CVFA U-19 team, the DBTC Elementary team and the University of San Carlos (USC) are the other football teams that made the list, while Leo Maquiling also gets an award for being the Best Striker in the UAAP.
Allison Kyle Quiroga and Jeremy Laurence Nopre, along with Karate Pilipinas head coach Rhodee Reynes Saavedra are the awardees for Karatedo.
For racing, the awardees are Jesse Garcia, Toyota Team Cebu and Christwil Villanueva.
Lear Jet Dela Cruz and Lord Garnett Talisic are getting awards in Scrabble for their performance in the Asia Cup Youth Scrabble Championships.
The awardees for triathlon are Raven Faith Alcoseba, Andrew Kim Remolino, Nicole Marie Del Rosario, Matthew Justine Hermosa, Christy Ann Perez, Renz Wynn Corbin and Fidel Victor Redillas.
The men’s, boys’, and girls’ volleyball teams of the University of San Jose-Recoletos and the women’s volleyball squad of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation will also be awarded for winning Cesafi titles.
John Dexter Tabique, Eron Borres, Albert Bacaro and John Dominic Bohol are the awardees for weightlifting.
Other special citation awardees are Team Kartzone Cebu for Karting, Lillia Sage Dazo for gymnastics, Cebu United Masters for Dragonboat, Rena Jean Tigmo for Taekwondo, Ernest Ybañez for Flag Football, LJ Go for Golf, Motik Panugalinog for skateboarding and Kurt Clement Barrera for tennis.(CCM/Pooled Report)
