THE Cebu Provincial Board has asked Gov. Pamela Baricuatro to allocate P1 million for the purchase and installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in the legislative building.

A resolution authored by 7th district Board Member Paz Rozgoni cited recent incidents in the legislative building raising concerns on the safety and security of the employees as well as the properties inside the edifice.

"Reports of theft incidents occuring within Capitol offices further underscore the urgent need to strengthen security measures and safeguard government property, official documents, and personnel" read part of the resolution.

These concerns were raised during the meeting of the technical working group (TWG) on the rehabilitation and maintenance in the legislative building on May 5.

In the meeting, all TWG members agreed that sufficient funds are needed to procure and install reliable, quality equipment with proper coverage and long-term functionality CCTV system in the legislative building.

These devices will be installed at the entrances, hallways, offices and other critical areas in the said building.

Rogzoni said the CCTVs have been proven an effective measure to deter criminal activities and also enhance monitoring capabilities.

Having CCTVs installed within the legislative building will also help ensure accountability within the Capitol premises, Rogzoni said. (MyTVCebu)
