PB moves to protect PWDs from online abuses
THE Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has urged the strict enforcement of the Magna Carta for disabled persons against those individuals who discriminate persons with disabilities on social media.
The board approved a resolution that calls on content creators and social media users to stop producing or sharing contents that mock or humiliate PWDs just for content and monetization.
In a resolution authored by 3rd District Board Member Dason Lorenz Lagon, the board noted the increasing number of prank videos, livestreams that portray PWDs in degrading and discriminatory manner just for entertainment, engagement and monetization purposes.
"The unchecked spread of such harmful content endangers the dignity, emotional well-being, and equal protection of persons with disabilities, and undermines efforts toward inclusive and respectful society," read part of the resolution.
The board said these acts constitute violation against the Magna Carta for PWDs, Anti-Bullying Act and Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The board has also urged concerned agencies like the Department of Information and Communications Technology and National Privacy Commission to help monitor and address these discriminatory content on social media.(MyTVCebu)
