THERE is no unusual surge in Covid-19 cases in Central Visayas, even as Metro Manila local government units report a rise in infections, health authorities said.

The Department of Health- Central Visayas (DOH-7) clarified that the advisory circulating online came specifically from a Manila local government unit based on its own local surveillance data.

Additionally, there had been no advisory indicating a nationwide surge had been issued by the DOH Central Office, the department said.

"In the case of Region 7, our monitoring through the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) is continuous. Based on the latest data, we don't have any unusual spikes," said DOH-7.

However, residents here are urged to continue observing standard health precautions.

DOH-7 also advised the public to consult a doctor immediately if they notice symptoms, and to isolate or wear a mask when necessary to protect their families and communities.

Covid-19 remains present in the region, with RESU occasionally recording isolated cases, similar to other common respiratory illnesses.

“[But] we want to emphasize that kini nga cases are very few, highly isolated, and completely manageable,” the department added.

Local governments in Metro Manila report an increase in COVID-19 infections.

Quezon City, in particular, logged a 265 percent rise in ‘mild cases’ over a three-week period, with confirmed infections climbing from 23 between May 21 and June 10 to 84 between June 11 and July 1, bringing its total for the year to 146.

Children aged 14 and below accounted for nearly 30 percent of the cases, the highest share among age groups, followed by adults aged 25 to 29 and senior citizens aged 60 and above.

Quezon City officials have said the increase is not cause for alarm, noting that reported infections have been mild, with no clustering of severe cases observed.

Other Metro Manila cities have reported similar upticks during the same period.

Nationwide, however, Covid-19 case counts remain lower than the previous year.

Based on reports from Manila media outlets, the DOH has noted total cases have dropped from 3,579 in 2025 to 719 as of June 20 this year.

Routine testing has been scaled back since the pandemic's end, meaning current figures likely capture only a fraction of actual circulating cases.(RBE)
