REVERED Cebuano sportsman Lorenzo “Chao” Sy is leveling up, taking a bold move for the upcoming eighth edition of the “Fist of Fury” boxing series.
Sy announced that Japanese boxers will be seeing action in the “Fist of Fury 8” slated August 18 at the Sky Hall of SM Seaside City Cebu.
“This is going to be an exciting card. Financially, I won’t be getting any from this promotion but boxing is my passion and when I promote boxing cards, I make sure that we offer quality fights,” said the top honcho of the Chao Sy International Promotions.
The upcoming card was launched on Saturday, July 12, at the Sy-owned La Fortuna Bakery. Three fighters from Chao Sy Boxing Stable attended the launching.
“I’ve been doing this for decades. Every show I’ve put up has always been free because I just love seeing real fights that thrill me and the Cebuano fans. But now, we're taking things to another level, we're going big,” said Sy during the press launch.
Sy said he is now focusing on international and regional fights where topnotch duels are guaranteed.
“I don’t want matches where the boxers keep running, it’s not a marathon. I want real brawls,” Sy added.
Top-billing the Fist of Fury 8 is Junibert Bantay, who will face Japan’s Haroki Miyamoto for the World Boxing Foundation Asia Youth super featherweight title.
In the co-main event, Jemuel Arañas faces Cebu-based Japanese prospect Kiyoto Narukami of the ZIP Sanman Boxing Team for a Philippine Boxing Federation title.
Coming off a loss in the Fist of Fury 7, Vicente Unidos will trade leathers with Kenneth Albino for the Games and Amusements Board 118-pound belt.
Sy announced that three Japanese amateur fighters will see action in the undercard, which is still being finalized.
Ticket prices and more details about the card will be announced soon.(CCM)
