FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte described as “preposterous” the allegations linking his administration’s war on drugs to the disappearance of cockfighting enthusiasts or “sabungeros,” Vice President Sara Duterte revealed.

“I informed him regarding the case of the missing cockfighting enthusiasts. And then, I told him there is an attempt to link him with the case. So, he said that ‘it’s preposterous,’” the vice president said during an ambush interview in The Hague, Netherlands.

The controversy resurfaced following whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, also known as alias Totoy, filing complaints against 12 police officers at the National Police Commission.

Patidongan alleged that two of those officers were also involved in Duterte’s anti-drug campaign.

In a report by Inquirer.net, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, on the same day, floated the possibility of a connection between the drug war and the “e-sabong” killings, although he admitted that the link remains unclear and is still under investigation.

Vice President Duterte, when asked about the allegations, said she was not surprised by the attack against her father and her office.

“Well, it is expected because we saw it early on with their attacks on my office,” she said.

She further lamented the political direction of the current administration, saying, “As I said before, it seems like we’re on a road to perdition and right now, I think it’s hopeless. I don’t see any road going back to that path of unity and continuity of President Duterte’s legacies.”(Edmie Rocsan, UV Comm Intern)
