THE Converge FiberXers avoided a second straight loss by dominating the Blackwater Bossing, 111-80, in the 49th PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday night, April 13, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Converge is off to a rollercoaster start, bouncing back from a loss again to even its record to 2-2 (win-loss). The FiberXers started the All-Filipino tournament with a tough 89-91 defeat to the Meralco Bolts. Converge chalked up its first win with a 92-83 drubbing of the Phoenix Fuel Masters before losing again versus the Magnolia Hotshots, 71-83.
The FiberXers recovered quickly, putting the game away against the Bossing by dominating the middle periods in the lopsided win.They actually trailed after the first period 21-24, but staged a 28-14 run in the second quarter and practically iced the outcome of the contest with another blistering 32-15 attack in the third period.
Justin Arana topped Converge with 19 points, 11 coming in the pivotal middle quarters. He also had 11 rebounds as he and fellow big man Justine Baltazar both came up with double-double perfoamcnes.
Baltazar finished with 16 points and 10 boards, while Schonny Winston finished with 16 points, five assists and three rebounds.
RK Ilagan scored 19 points for Blackwater, which suffered another blowout loss after being beaten badly by the San Miguel Beermen in its previous outing, 84-106.
