OPERATING like a well-oiled machine, the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers pounded the Benedicto College (BC) Baby Cheetahs, 125-67, in the secondary division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Basketball Tournament on Sunday, November 17, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The whopping 58-point win hiked UV’s record to 8-2 (win-loss), good for third place in the team standings behind the current No. 2 seed Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles (8-1).
With still one game left in its schedule, UV is still in contention for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
For them to clinch the remaining twice-to-beat bonus, UV must hope that Ateneo won’t be able to get one win in its final two games.
In the secondary division match, the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons dumped the University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
CEC, thus, tied the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters at 7-3, making their November 23 due a critical showdown.
Christophelcian Abellana topped UV with 21 points on a 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range.
John Dela Torre and Jhunrel Dagatan added 14 markers apiece while Kent Clark Castro had 13. Dirk Callora tossed in 12 points and 12 rebounds, and team captain Kenneth Cole had 11 in a superb balanced attack by the Baby Lancers.
Adrian Molero scored 15 points for the Baby Cheetahs, who slumped to 1-10.(CCM)
