AFTER scoring a double championship last week, Sugbu Calidad Football Club struck anew as it ruled the recent Sidlak Football Cup Under-9 in Danao City, northern Cebu.

Sugbu Calidad ruled two divisions in the 2nd Balamban Football League and sustained their winning ways by surviving a tough competition in Danao.

Steered by head coach Aljohn Armamento and assistant coach Brient Cabarrubias, the team started its campaign in Danao with a close 3–2 win over Barili Wabaks then forced a draw against Bato Spartans in its next assigment.

Sugbu Calidad advanced to the knockout rounds by scoring a pair of 3-0 dominant wins over Ateneo de Cebu-White and Lapu-Lapu City.

In the quarterfinals, Sugbu Calidad blanked Ateneo de Cebu-Blue, 2-0, then booked a championship ticket by tripping Legacy FC in the semfinals, 1-0.

Sugbu Calidad then faced MFC-Cebu in the final round where it had to go through the wringer before posting a title-clinching 1-0 victory.

The champion squad heavily banked on the fearless plays of several U-8 members in Sean Devera, Draco Santarita, Evan Tan Bon Thong, Chassey Cabilao, and goalkeeper Zach Brunidor.

Making the championship win more special was the individual awards that Sugbu Calidad won.

Nikola Del Rosario pocketed the Golden Boot accolade, Andrew Chik was named Best Midfielder, Kaizer Tiu earned the Golden Ball, Kenshi Okada won Best Defender, and Zach Brunidor claimed the Golden Gloves award.(CCM)
