BEHIND June Mar Fajardo and import EJ Anosike, the San Miguel Beermen avoided falling into a deep hole, beating the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 131-121, in Game 4 of their 49th PBA Governors’ Cup best-of-seven semifinal series on Wednesday night, October 16, at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Kings came into the match gunning for a critical 3-1 series lead but Fajardo and Anosike had other things in mind, helping the Beermen even things up at two games apiece that reduced the duel into a best-of-three affair.

Fajardo and Anosike combined for 24 of San Miguel’s 37 points in the third period where the Beermen turned a slim 82-56 halftime lead into a fat 99-85 cushion heading into the final quarter.

The Cebuano Fajardo piled up 29 points and 16 rebounds while Anosike completed his own double-double with 27 markers and 11 boards.

CJ Perez added 10 points, Marcio Lassiter and Don Trollano chipped in 15 apiece. Terence Romeo was the sixth Beerman in twin digits with 14 markers.

San Miguel’s total team effort enabled them to survive the 49-point explosion of Ginebra’s deadly import Justin Brownlee.

Stephen Holt backed Brownlee with 17 points, while Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, and RJ Abarrientos contributed 15, 12, and 11, respectively
