AUTHORITIES have confirmed that body parts that were discovered in the freezer of a Colorado home earlier this year belong to Amanda Overstreet, a 16-year-old girl who had been missing for nearly 20 years.

The identification was made through DNA testing, as announced in a Friday release by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

According to their website, the remains were found on January 12 in a Grand Junction residence that had recently been sold.

A person retrieving the freezer for free stumbled upon the gruesome discovery.

According to the sheriff’s office, Overstreet had not been seen or heard from since April 2005, shortly before her disappearance.

Overstreet was the daughter of the home’s previous owner, and authorities noted that there is no record of her being reported missing.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.

Previously, officials stated that they viewed the incident as isolated, asserting there was no ongoing threat to the community.

As of now, the sheriff’s office has not released information regarding the cause of death. Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the identification.

One neighbor, Jameson Perez, recalled seeing Overstreet walking to school before she went missing.

The community is now left grappling with the implications of the discovery, as questions linger about the events leading to Overstreet’s disappearance.(CMM)
