IS PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. facing an impeachment threat?
Malacañang says no, calling the claims political maneuvering while reaffirming the Chief Executive’s respect for legal and constitutional processes.
The warning came after Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice claimed in a radio interview that some members of Congress were planning to file an impeachment case against Marcos next month with betrayal of public trust being cited as a potential ground.
Erice also indicated that these discussions within the House of Representatives, whose members he did not identify, are not limited to a possible complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, Marcos’ former ally.
He added that the one-year bar for filing an impeachment complaint against Duterte will expire on Feb. 6.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a Philstar report, “He (Marcos) respects the existing constitutional processes and believes that any actions taken by members of Congress will be driven by facts, the law and national interest.”
She emphasized that the President remains focused on governing and delivering results for Filipinos, and that the administration would not engage in speculation over unverified claims, calling the allegations “unsubstantiated statements allegedly coming from the supporters of a certain politician.”(MyTVCebu)
