MORE than 2,500 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were either dismissed from service or suspended in 2025, reflecting the organization’s intensified internal cleansing efforts, according to senior police officials.
PNP data showed that the disciplinary actions stemmed from a wide range of offenses, including grave misconduct, involvement in illegal drugs, dereliction of duty, and abuse of authority.
The PNP said 1,120 personnel were dismissed from service while 1,425 were suspended. The sanctions were meted out of the 4,203 administrative caes that were filed involving 6,527 personnel.
The figures include uniformed personnel from various ranks, from patrol officers to senior non-commissioned officers, a report by Inquirer.net stated.
Police leadership said the spike in disciplinary cases highlights the administration’s push to restore public trust in law enforcement.
Of the total number, a significant portion were meted the ultimate penalty of dismissal from service, while others were suspended for varying periods depending on the gravity of their offenses. Some cases are still under appeal, but authorities emphasized that due process was strictly observed.(Victoria Diana, USJ-R Comm Intern)
