NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: San Roque College de Cebu joins Cesafi
NEW faces will be strutting their wares in this year’s Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi).
The league officially welcomed the San Roque College de Cebu (SRCDC) Greyhounds, who are ready to make an instant impact in the premier tournament.
In his letter to SRCDC President Cesario Muñez, Cesafi Commissioner Felix "Boy" Tiukinhoy Jr. welcomed the school with open arms.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc., I am pleased to inform you that your membership application has been officially approved. We are excited to welcome San Roque College de Cebu into our sporting and academic community for the upcoming 2026-27 season," said Tiukinhoy.
In a press conference at David's Tea House-City Time Square in Mandaue City on Saturday, April 18, Muñez said the school’s entry in the Cesaif “is a historic moment they relish with pride in their hearts.”
"We would like to extend our profound gratitude to the Cesafi Board headed by Atty. Gus Go and commissioner Boy Tiukinhoy for giving us this golden opportunity to be part of the Cesafi family," said Muñez, who founded SRCDC (formerly San Roque Child Development School) way back in 1992.
The private academic institution now has campuses in Liloan, Cordova, and Bogo City.
“This marks a new chapter of growth, opportunity, and excellence for San Roque College de Cebu. It is a chance for our athletes to compete at a higher level and represent the school with honor and integrity," Muñez continued.
Muñez added that joining a competitive and well-organized league like Cesafi isn’t just about competing.
“It is about strengthening school pride and unity, and showcasing the talent and character of our students," Muñez said. "Through Cesafi, the school aims to develop well-rounded individuals who demonstrate discipline, teamwork, leadership, resilience, and sportsmanship on and off the playing field," he said
Also during the press briefing, Muñez introduced the team’s coaching staff that will be headed by Jeff Codera and team consultant Alecks de la Torre.
"I am honored to step into the role of head coach for the SRCDC Greyhounds. Our program is solidly anchored on the mission, vision, and core values of our school,” said Codera.
Codera emphasized that the school’s campaign will not just be all about winning games.
“Our goal is not just to win games, but to build a culture based on discipline, relentless effort, and trust. We will work hard and we will do it together as a family," said Codera, a member of the NBA's Golden State Warriors training camp for over a decade now.
Muñez added that the school is assembling a team ready to go up against the league’s established teams.
"We are ready. We may be new but we are determined and prepared to give our best in every game. We look forward to a healthy competition, learning from every match, and building sportsmanship and mutual respect on and off the court,” said Muñez.(CCM)
