ANOTHER batch of Temporary Learning Shelters (TLS) will be constructed in several towns in northern Cebu that were badly hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake last year.

This as the Cebu Provincial Board allowed Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro to enter into an agreement with various construction companies for the construction of TLS in Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Catmon, Carmen, and on Bantayan Island

Ten resolutions authored by Board Member Red Duterte were approved by 17th Sangguniang Panlalawigan in connection with the project.

In the contract agreement that will be signed by Baricuatro with six various contractors, at least 86 units of TLS amounting to close to P100 million will be constructed in schools located in quake-affected towns.

TLS are pre-fabricated modular units that will be used as temporary classrooms while the Deparment of Education (DepEd) is working on the rehabilitation, repair and reconstruction of affected schools.

According to DepEd, over 500 classrooms were destroyed, 1,101 were damaged and 1,723 classroms incurred minor damage in the September 30 earthquake last year.(MyTVCebu)
