No Brownlee for Gilas in 2nd round of FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers

AS THE FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers enters its crucial stages, Gilas Pilipinas will have to deal with the absence of its biggest weapon.

Gilas head coach Tim Cone confirmed that Justin Brownlee will not be available when the Nationals play two home games against Jordan and Iran on August 28 and 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The 38-year-old Brownlee has been out of commission due to a hamstring injury, which already affected him during the PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.

The naturalized player aggravated the unjury while playing for Glas in the last window against New Zealand.

Brownlee was not around when Gilas was beaten black and blue by Australia, 49-92, at the conclusion of the first round.

Gilas has lost its four games since opening the window with back-to-back wins against Guam.

Having Brownlee could have been big for Gilas as it already secured the services of 7-foot-3 big man Kai Sotto, who will be forming a towering trio with AJ Edu and June Mar Fajardo.(CCM)
