Mixture of old and new imports to spice up PBA Governors’ Cup
RETURNING imports will be up against new faces in the 50th PBA Governors’ Cup fire, which will fire off on July 10.
Leading the old faces is Justin Brownlee, who will once again suit up for the Barangay Ginebra Kings.
The Brownlee-led Kings recently won the Commissioner’s Cup, beating the TNT Tropang 5G in a gruelling championship series that went the full seven-game route.
Apart from Brownlee, also set for another tour of duty are Aaron Fuller for the Rain or Shine Elaso Painters, DeQuan Jones of the NLEX Road Warriors, and George King of the San Miguel Beermen.
King, a certified scorer, previously played for the Blackwater Bossing and once scored 64 points in last season’s Governors’ Cup
Fuller helped Rain or Shine reach the semifinals in his first stint with the team. NLEX also made it to the playoffs with Jones as its import last season.
Defending champion TNT will be parading three-time Best Import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson but the do-it-all import is expected to suit up in the latter part of the conference.
Hollis-Jefferson, who led TNT to three championships, continues to recover from an ACL injury.
While waiting for Hollis-Jefferson to suit up, former NBA player Darius Days will temporarily reinforce the Tropa.
Leading the new faces is former Indonesian Basketball League MVP Kentrell Barkley, who will be reinforcing Blackwater. Macau has tapped Will Douglas, Phoenix signed BJ Johnson, while Magnolia went for KJ Buffen.(CCM)
