A NEWBORN baby girl is fighting for survival after she was discovered buried alive in a shocking case of child abandonment in Uttar Pradesh, India.

According to local police, residents heared faint cries and were shocked to find an infant partially buried in the ground.

In a report by BBC, the baby was immediately rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors are working to stabilize her condition.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attempted infanticide.

Child rights advocates condemned the act, pointing to the ongoing issue of gender-based neglect and violence against female infants in some rural communities.

Hospital officials report that the baby remains in critical condition but is receiving round-the-clock care.
