TWO universities in Cebu City were forced to cancel classes after a series of alarming Facebook posts on Monday, October 21, claimed that bombs had been planted in their premises.

The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) and Cebu Technological University (CTU) both suspended their operations in response to the threats.

At CIT-U, students from elementary to college levels were evacuated after an anonymous social media post warned of a bomb explosion in the campus.

The post was captioned "Goodbye GLE building!" and accompanied by a photo of a time bomb, which netizens quickly pointed out as fake.

The university swiftly coordinated with local authorities, ensuring the safety of its students and faculty.

"Parents may pick up their children if they wish," the private institution stated, as teachers supervised the evacuation.

Meanwhile, a similar post targeted CTU's main campus, stating, "Bomb successfully planted. Say goodbye, CTU main! YOU have approximately 5 hours nalang (left)."

The post sent shockwaves through the state-run university, prompting an immediate halt to classes and triggering a police investigation.

These incidents are part of a concerning trend. Last September 21, the University of Cebu (UC) Lapu-Lapu Mandaue campus faced a bomb scare after a similar post appeared online.

In August, UC Banilad also dealt with a threat, leading to disruptions despite no bombs being found.

The recent threats have fueled growing concerns about safety on Cebu’s campuses. While no actual explosives have been found, the psychological impact on students, faculty, and parents has been significant, prompting calls for stronger security measures.

In previous reports, authorities urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to avoid spreading unverified information that could exacerbate the situation.(MyTVCebu)
