THERE’S no letting up in the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers’ bid for top two finish in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Season 25 basketball tournament.
The Green Lancers pocketed their fifth straight win by dumping the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons on Sunday, Nov. 30, at the Cebu Coliseum.
UV improved to 11-2 (win-loss), tying the University of Cebu Webmasters again for the No. 1 spot in the team standings.
The two powerhouse teams are already assured of Final 4 berths but they need to win their remaining games to earn crucial twice-to-beat bonuses that will be given to the top two semifinalists.
UV will try to formally secure the crucial incentive when it ends its elimination-round campaign against the Benedicto College Cheetahs on Wednesday, Dec. 3,
The Cheetahs are still in contention for a Top 2 finish as they are currently in third place with an 8-3 record.
Kent Ivo Salarda led UV’s critical win with 15 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and an assist. PJ Taliman contributed 12 points while Raul Gentallan and Winston Bingil each chipped in 10 points in the win that saw the Green Lancers post leads as big as 39 points.
Raul Gilbuena scored 18 points for UP-Cebu, which slumped to 2-11.(CCM)
