Gilas finished sixth overall in the recent FIBA Women’s Asia Cup despite not having Afril Bernardino, Janine Pontejos, and Chack Cabinbin who were unavailable due to military duties.
Powered by Naomi Panganiban, Sumayah Sugapong, Kacey Dela Rosa, Kent Pastrana, Vanessa De Jesus, and Jack Animam, the Nationals were able to keep its spot in the prestigious Division 1 after coming up with a 1-4 slate.
Still at No. 1 spot in the world ranking is powerhouse United States of America. Australia also kept its hold on the No. 2 place while France is at third followed by Asian powerhouse China.
Completing the Top 10 are Belgium, Spain, Canada, Nigeria, Brazil, and Serbia. Japan, Asia’s the third-best team, crashed out of Top 10 after falling from No. 9 to No. 11.(CCM)
