A DISMAL showing in Saudi Arabia last month pulled Gilas Pilipinas down in the latest FIBA World rankings.

Gilas fell from No. 34 to No. 37, a drop that was attributed to its seventh place finish in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Nationals went 2-3 (win-loss) in the competition. They made it to the quarterfinal round but were totally dominated by eventual champion Australia.

Gilas struggled from the start, losing back-to-back games against Chinese Taipei and New Zealand. It won over Iraq and escaped Saudi Arabia in the qualification for the quarterfinal round, where it was eliminated by Australia.

Though it fell to No. 37, Gilas remained at seventh place in the Asia-Pacific region behind Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Iran, China and Lebanon.

By defending its crown in the FIBA Asia Cup, Australia moved up to sixth place in the world rankings, becoming the only Asia-Pacific team to make it to the Top 10.

Guam and Chinese Taipei made significant leaps. Guam moved up seven rungs to take the No. 81 spot while Chinese Taipei improved six spots to No. 67.

Powerhouse USA is still the worldโ€™s No. 1 while Germany, boosted by its title run in the EuroBasket, moved up to No. 2, a spot that was previously occupied by Serbia.(CCM)
