EXPERIENCED runners lived up to their lofty billings while two media workers stepped up to the plate and proved to be the fastest among their peers.

The first-ever Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists (CFBJ) Cebu Press Freedom Week Fun Run was a resounding success with close to 500 runners answering the starting horn on Sunday, September 15, at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Prince Joey Lee and Asia Paraase showed the stuff they are made of when they ruled the 10-kilometer race and pocketed P7,000 each for their feats.

Lee, the reigning 2024 National Milo Marathon-Cebu Leg champion, ruled the men’s 10K by finishing the race in 34 minutes and 25 seconds. Lee was followed by Jovan Bensig and Jerom Casinillo with 35:12 and 35:34, respectively.

Paraase, a double-gold medalist in this year’s Palarong Pambansa ruled the women’s 10K race with a time of 40:32. Icy Baldos wound up second with 47:10 while Sofia Florence Lora ranked third with 58:04.

The second and third runners-up in the 10K race got P4,000 and P2,500, respectively.

In the 5K race, Mark Mahinay did not slow down and ruled the men’s division with 17:30,followed by Oswaldo Arcelo (18:29) and Shane Steven Cejas (19:11). Ruling the women’s side was Alona Marie Campo (24:58), who was followed by Patricia Pangalao (25:15), and Jisell Anne Sumbi (38:13), respectively. The top three in the 5K race got P5,000, P3,000, and P1,500, respectively.

Dominating the 3K race were John Rey Pelones and Jane Panglao, who ruled the men’s and women’s divisions with 8:38 and 11:49, respectively.

Finishing second and third in the men’s 3k were Eugene Sevilo (9:12), and Clint Niño Roma (9:23 while Maria Genia Jeresano (15:40), and Eiyen Torres (19:15) rounded up the top three in the women’s category.

The top three finishers in the 3K race P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively.

Meanwhile in the 3K media category, MyTVCebu’s program director Patricia Andrea Pateña-Matheu emerged as the fastest in the women’s division after she reached the finish line in 19 minutes and 25 seconds. Trailing Matheu was dyHP’s Arvie Veloso and Razzel Ygoña with 20:19 and 20:52, respectively.

Ruling the men’s 3K media category Venus Benting (12:38) followed by Alex Quezon (13:35), and Jerome Yap (14:32).

All finishers received medals and freebies.
