A FORMER chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) received a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) monthly payola and is one of those who helped dismissed Bamban Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo escape the country.

The development was revealed during the continuation of the Senate probe on illegal POGO on Wednesday, September 17.

During the hearing, Senator Risa Hontiveros asked Pagcor senior vice president Raul Villanueva if there could be government officials who helped Guo flee in July.

“It’s not a PNP unit, but personalities. I think it mentioned a former PNP chief,” Villanueva.

Villanueva pointed out that he could not ascertain the source of the information as it was just like "rumors" in the intelligence community and still needed verification.

Villanueva, a retired general and former commander at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, added that a former PNP chief was rumored to be part of Guo's "monthly payroll."

"Ang parang usapan dun ma'am parang 'yung parang nasa payroll, 'yung monthly payroll ever since" he said adding that this information still needs confirming.

Hontiveros received information that there were government officials who helped Guo escape in exchange for a large amount of money.

Hontiveros was shocked upon knowing the alleged monthly payroll involving a high-ranking official in the PNP.

"It gets worse and worse. Kanina bad enough 'yung magbayad di umano ng 100 milyong pisong suhol para makatakas ang isang Guo Hua Ping. It's even worse kung historically may monthly payroll," the lady senator said.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada pressed Villanueva to name the retired PNP chief to avoid other former PNP chiefs being dragged in the issue.

Villanueva failed to provide any names.(LAO)
