THE Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Junior Wildcats shocked the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, 65-61, in what was by far their biggest win in the secondary division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament on Sunday night, October 13, at the Cebu Coliseum.

CIT-U sealed the shock win by overcoming an 18-point deficit, pocketing just their second win in four games while dealing UV its first loss in four games this season.

The Baby Lancers suffered a major blow when top gun Roderick Cambarijan played for just two minutes due to an ankle injury.

Daniel Chase Mapula and Ryko Batuigas led CIT-U with monster double-double performances with the former tallying 17 points and 14 rebounds and the latter finishing with 17 markers and 11 boards.

Kief Russel Suarez added 18 points, three rebounds, one steal, and one block.

Christophelcian Abellana paced UV with 17 points.

On the other hand, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers nipped Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves, 87-53, for their third win in four games.

Fritz Gonzales topped USPF with 15 points, AJ Kyle Delos Santos added 13, while Rhelance Lacerna and Champ Davidson Brigoli chipped in 10 each,

Angelo Cruz fired 12 points for DBTC, which tasted its fourth defeat in five games.

In another secondary division duel, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars improved to 4-1 by downing the Benedicto College Baby Cheetahs, 63-40.

The Baby Cheetahs fell to 1-5.

In the lone college division match, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors snapped an alarming slide by taking down the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 69-52.

It was only USC’s first win in five games while CIT-U slid to 1-2.(CCM)
