ONE for the books!

THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters capped their magnificent run in the elimination round with a 53-44 vanquishing of the Benedicto College (BC) Cheetahs in the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Men's Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night, November 26, at the Cebu Coliseum.

The victory allowed UC to sweep the eight-game elimination round, marking for the first time in the school’s history that it went unbeaten in the eliminations. It was such a sweet sweep for UC as it couldn’t even complete such a feat in the two championship runs that they had with the dominant June Mar Fajardo around.

The historic feat tightened UC’s grip of the No. 1 spot in the team standings, earning them the No. 1 seeding in the Final Four round where they will enjoy a twice-to-beat bonus against the No. 4 University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars.

Facing off in the other semifinal duel are the No. 2 seed University of the Visayas Green Lancers and the Cheetahs.

Leading UC’s momentous win was birthday boy Jepherson Nonol, who raked in 11 and three rebounds.

“It’s a great feeling,” Nonol, who turned 21 on Sunday, told reporters in a post-game interview.

Zareygel Rosano backed Nonol with 10 points, three steals, and one assist.

Albert Joshua Tolipas scored 11 to lead the Cheetahs, who couldn’t pull off a win that could have given them the No. 1 seeding in the semis.

BC finished the eliminations with six wins and two losses.(CCM)
