CASH, favors, and public resources are allegedly changing hands as election heat intensifies — with at least 158 cases filed for vote buying, vote selling, and abusing government funds, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The DILG revealed the figure during a press conference on Friday at its headquarters in Quezon City.
“Nai-report na na mayroong 158 na reklamo para sa vote buying, vote selling, o pang-aabuso sa mga kagamitan ng gobyerno na naisumite na sa Committee on Kontra Bigay sa Comelec,” said DILG Assistant Secretary for Local Government Jesi Howard Lanete in an Inquirer report.
To combat these offenses, Comelec implemented Resolution 11104 on January 28, establishing stricter safeguards against electoral fraud and misuse of public resources.
Lanete reminded candidates of their responsibility to strictly adhere to Comelec regulations and urged incumbent officials not to exploit government assets for political advantage.
He also emphasized that with just 17 days remaining before the national and local elections, the department hopes for a safe, peaceful, and successful electoral process for everyone.(MyTVCebu)
