CEBUANO fighter Rodex Piala couldn’t bring home the bacon after absorbing a knockout loss in a title fight in Brisbane, Australia on Friday, Jan. 17.
The 30-year-old Piala bowed to hometown bet Liam Wilson, who successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) International super featherweight title,
Wilson finished off Piala with a well-timed left hook to the body–a shot that sent the Cebuano boxer to the canvas grimacing in pain. Piala couldn’t get from that blow, sealing the end of the fight with only 20 seconds left in the fourth round.
Piala, thus, suffered only his second career loss to fall to 12W-2L, 1KO. Piala traveled to Australia on a two-fight winning streak before running into the tough Wilson, who is ranked No. 3 in the WBO junior lightweight division.
Piala’s mini run included a big win in February 2025 in Cebu City, where he defeated Yeerjialahasi Laayibieke tio claim the WBO Oriental super featherweight title.
Wilson snatched his 18th win, 10 by stoppage. The hard-hitting boxer only has three losses.(CCM)
