PACKS of cigarretes worth P2 million were seized on Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Madredijos town off Bantayan Island, Cebu.
Police said the cigarettes were considered illegal as they didn’t have the required graphic health warning labels.
Arrested during the operation conducted by operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CDIG)-Cebu Provincial Field Unit in Barangay Kangwayan, Madredijos was a certain Anthony.
Police said Anthony was caught in the act of selling the illegal cigarettes. The man will be charged for alleged violation of Republic Act 10643 or the Graphic Health Warnings Law.
Seized from the suspect were 40 master cases of different brands of cigarettes.
The operation stemmed from a tip that cigraettes with no graphic health warning labels were being sold in the area.
During the operation, a CIDG operative posed as a buyer and bought packs of cigarettes worth P25,000 from the suspect.
The suspect was immediately arrested after the transaction was consummated, police said.(CDB)
