Boy drowns in Liloan canal
TRAGEDY struck when a 12-year-old boy drowned in an inlet canal in Barangay Yati, Liloan town, Cebu on Tuesday afternoon, April 21.
The body of John was found in a canal situated at the back of a subdivision past 2 p.m.
Police said John and two other children swam in the canal around 11 a.m. The three children had actually decided to go home but changed their minds and went back to the canal to swim again.
According to the police, the caretaker of the subdivision reprimanded the chidlren not to swim again and warned them that the current was already strong.
The children allegedly ignored the warning.
Police said John was the first to jump into the canal but the strong current swept him away.
The two other children tried to save John but to no avail.
Emergency rescuers were called in. The boy was later recovered but efforts to revive him went futile.
Police said the incident will be investigated further.(CDB)
