MALACAÑANG responded to the recent impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., asserting that the Chief Executive is unbothered and confident that the legal challenge will fail because “he did nothing wrong.”

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro addressed the media, confirming she had spoken directly with the President regarding the filing.

According to Castro, Marcos Jr. is not worried by the proceedings as he maintains that his administration has strictly adhered to the rule of law.

“Yes, I asked him personally, he said he is not bothered because he knows that he did not commit any impeachable offense that would make him accountable,” Castro told reporters at a press briefing.

In a report by Philstar, Castro further emphasized that the President believes all his executive actions remain firmly in accordance with the Constitution and the law. She also noted that such political maneuvers are detrimental to the nation's stability, stressing that an impeachment case is not good for the economy.

In the same briefing, Castro denied allegations that the Palace was behind the move a claim that had been circulated by various critics.

The Palace responded to claims from Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte and the President’s own sister, Senator Imee Marcos. Both suggested the complaint was a "scripted" maneuver designed to shield the administration from other unresolved corruption issues.

Senator Marcos was particularly vocal, likening the legal move to a recycled theatrical plot.

“This is just another drama series that looks like it will last for one year,” she said, referencing the constitutional ban on filing more than one impeachment complaint against the same official within a one-year period.

“We know the background of those who filed. The dramatic move is obvious. We have watched this film before. Bumenta na yan sa takilya (It’s already a box office hit),” the senator added.

In a rebuttal to allegations of Palace involvement, Castro distanced the current administration from the "political planting" tactics she associated with the previous leadership.

“Definitely, none,” Castro replied when asked if the administration had a hand in the filing.

“We were never involved in the planting of evidence like his father,” Castro said, referring to former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“I think they’re the ones who are used to it. Under President Marcos, the Constitution and due process are respected.”

Castro further debunked rumors linking the complainant to the First Lady, clarifying that he never served as her counsel nor represented her in any disbarment proceedings.

“I wish their allies would stop being sources of fake news because the First Lady has never filed a disbarment case, and the one who filed the impeachment complaint against the President was never her lawyer,” Castro clarified.(Jhon Mark A. Aboabo, USJR Comm Intern)
