FORMER Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Nicolas Torre denied filing or signing documents for optional retirement from the police service.
โNo,โ Torre replied when asked by reporters if he had indeed retired from the PNP.
Last Wednesday, Jan. 21, General Order No. NHQ-GO-OR-2026-330 dated Jan. 19 was released, stating that Torre III has formally retired from the police service upon the approval of the National Police Commission.
โ[Torre] is optionally retired from the PNP service effective Dec. 26, 2025 with 5th [longevity pay] and retirement benefits equivalent to his present rank as approved by the Napolcom Resolution No. 2026-0029 dated Jan. 19, 2026,โ the order read.
Torre inspected the conduct of the Bayanihan sa Estero program at the Kalabingkoho River in Barangay Malanday, Valenzuela City on Tuesday, Jan. 21. There, reporters asked Torre to comment on his supposed retirement.
In denying filing for a retirement, Torred said he will clarify the matter with the PNP.
โI donโt have any applications to sign. So letโs leave it at that for now because my bosses and I will talk first,โ Torre said.
Torre is now the general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The controversial official emphasized that there is nothing irregular with him holding the MMDA post while still being in the PNP.
โItโs not the first time that a police officer has worked for other agencies. Because it is upon the option of the President to deploy people in accordance to the needs as he sees fit,โ Torre said in an Inquirer.net report.
Torre was appointed as PNP chief on May 29 last year but was also relieved after three months.
PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. replaced Torre as acting chief of the PNP.(MyTVCebu)
