ACTING Mandaue City Vice Mayor Nerrisa Soon-Ruiz will implement changes as the presiding officer of the council’s regular sessions.

Soon-Ruiz said one of the changes that she plans to enforce is to ensure that all resolutions will be thoroughly studied.

Soon-Ruiz said that she will not allow that it will be the consultants of the councilors who will defend resolutions that the council wishes to pass into an ordinance.

Ruiz urged the councilors to stand up and express their real sentiment and not just follow what is being told by the Office of the Mayor.

Soon- Ruiz assured that she will support projects and programs that she believes will benefit the majority of the Mandauehanons.

Whatever the outcome of the issues being tackled in the council, Ruiz assured that she will also respect the decision of the majority.

The camp of suspended Mayor Jonas Cortes still has the upper-hand in the council, 12-4

Cortes is serving a one-year suspension that was slapped against him by the Office of the Ombudsman for illegal appointment.

Cortes’ ally, Vice Mayor Glen Bercede, is now the city’s acting mayor while Soon-Ruiz, the no. 1 councilor based on the number of votes she got in the 2022 election, is now the city’s acting vice mayor.(MyTVCebu)
