SHAI Gilgeous-Alexander showed why he is the league’s MVP, firing 38 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 118-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of their Western Conference Finals duel on Friday (Philippine time), May 23.

Duplicating their dominant 114-88 Game 1 victory, the Thunder surged to a 2-0 lead in the series, which will shift to Minnesota for Games 3 and Game 4.

Game 3 will be on Sunday, May 25.

Scoring 31 points in Game 1, Gilgeous-Alexander stayed hot in Game 2, making 12 of 21 field goals and 13 of 15 free throws after receiving his MVP trophy from Commissioner Adam Silver before the game.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored 19 points in the first two quarters and the Thunder never looked back after taking a 58-50 lead at the break. The Thunder went on to lead by as many as 22 points in the final half for the easy win.

It was not all Gilgeous-Alexander for the Thunder with Jalen Williams piling up 26 points and 10 rebounds and Chet Holmgren adding 22 points.

Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 32 points but it took him 26 shots to get them. Jaden McDaniels scored 22 points and Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 17 for the Timberwolves.

After scoring 28 points for Minnesota in Game 1, Julius Randle was a big disappointment in Game 2, where he managed just six points on 2-of-11 shooting from the field.(CCM)
