THE big guns in Philippine boxing will spearhead the country’s campaign in next month’s 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Leading the 13-man Philippine boxing team, composed of seven men and six women, are undefeated professional boxers Weljon Mindoro and Eumir Marcial as well as Paris Olympics medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) announced the composition of the Philippine boxing team on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Marcial, which sports a 7W-0L record as a pro, will vie in the men’s 80kg division. Mindoro, whose pro career record stands at 15-W-0L-1D, will be seeing action in the 75kg division.
Also part of the men’s team are Jay Bryan Baricuatro (48kg), Marvin Tabamo (51kg), Flint Jara (54kg), Ian Clark Bautista (57kg) and Junmilardo Ogayre (60kg).
Aside from Petecio and Villegas, the women’s team will also have Olympian Hergie Bacyadan (70kg), Ofelia Magno (48kg), Claudine Veloso (54kg), and Riza Pasuit (57kg).(CCM)
