REGIE “The Filipino Phenom” Suganob is set to climb the squared ring again in a non-title fight but with so much repercussions.
Suganob, the face of PMI Bohol Boxing Stable, will take on world-rated Tanzanian Mchanja Yohana in the main event of “Kumong Bol-Anon 23” slated Nov. 15 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
While there is no title at stake, Suganob, who is on a three-fight winning streak, cannot afford to lose this one as a victory will allow him to stay at the upper part of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight rankings.
The 28-year-old native of Dauis, Bohol has dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 in the latest WBO light flyweight rankings. A victory will certainly boost Suganob’s bid of earning another shot at a world title next year.
Sporting a 16W-1L, 6KOs record, Suganob last saw action in December last year in which he pulled off a third-round technical knockout win over Thai boxer Nanthanon Thongchai in Tagbilaran City.
The 27-year-old Yohana is one that could give Suganob a run for his money. Yohana is a former WBO Global flyweight champion with 21 victories, only six losses, and a draw. Fourteen of his victories came via knockout.
Ranked No. 8 in the WBO flyweight division, Yohana has won his last seven fights. Interestingly, the last time he lost was against a Filipino fighter when he absorbed a unanimous decision defeat to Milan Milendo in 2023 at SM Seaside City Cebu.(CCM)
