AFTER a lukewarm start to the season, the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens have suddenly become unstoppable.
Not even a slow start could stop the sizzling Wildkittens as they snatched their third-straight win via a 72-53 spanking of the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College (CRMC) Baby Mustangs on Tuesday, October 22, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The string of wins have put the Wildkittens in a solid position to contend for a spot in the Final 4, improving to 4-2 (win-loss) to move up to sixth spot in the team standings of the high school division of the 24th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Basketball Tournament.
Coming off back-to-back wins against the mighty University of the Visayas Baby Green Lancers and the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, the Wildkittens took off to a lousy start, allowing the Baby Mustangs to surge to a 14-4 lead.
CIT-U regrouped, and when the first two of plays ended, the two squads were locked in a 33-all standoff. The Wildkittens buckled down to serious business in the third period and seized a 43-39 lead. A 12-5 run was all the Wildkittens needed to seize full control as they broke the game wide open by posting a 55-44 lead.
Randel Jay Mendaros wound up with a double-double, leading CIT-U with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and an assist. Kieff Russel Suarez chipped in 10 points.
Brent Teshawn Cuyno tallied 15 points, four rebounds, four steals, and two assists while Eric Estalani added 11 markers for CRMC, which suffered its fifth defeat in six games.(CCM)
