AN ELECTION wouldn’t be complete without the prominent figures from the showbiz industry.

National artist Nora Aunor, former Caloocan city councilor Marjorie Barretto, and current party-list representative Sam Verzosa are among the notable figures who have submitted their certificates of candidacy (COC) for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

On October 7, Aunor announced her intention to secure a House seat, filing her COC as the second nominee for the People’s Champ party-list.

Barretto also made headlines with her political comeback, revealing her plans to run for Caloocan councilor under the Aksyon at Malasakit party through an Instagram post.

She expressed gratitude to Mayor Along Malapitan and Congressman Oca Malapitan for their support, stating that she feels a renewed sense of purpose.

Meanwhile, Verzosa filed his COC on October 6, aiming for the position of mayor of Manila City.

In a video message to his supporters, he committed to “fight corruption” and poverty in the capital.

Other celebrities seeking public office include Ara Mina (Pasig City 2nd district councilor), Arron Villaflor (Tarlac 2nd district board member), Cai Cortez (Taytay, Rizal councilor), Aljur Abrenica (Angeles City, Pampanga councilor), Samantha Panlilio (second nominee for Agimat party-list), and Philip Salvador (senatorial candidate).

Aiko Melendez is also campaigning for re-election as councilor in Quezon City’s 5th district. In a Facebook post, she promised to continue her brand of public service of “Aksyon at Malasakit” in District 5.

Additionally, Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2019 Leren Bautista filed her COC for re-election as councilor in Los Baños, as shared on her Instagram Story.

Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup is also vying for a council seat in Pasig City’s 1st district.(CMM)
