POPE Francis has expressed appreciation for his doctors and healthcare workers who have been attending to him for the past three weeks after he was stricken with double pneumonia.

Admitted to the Rome’s Gemelli hospital since February 14, Francis issued a written Angelus in which he highlighted the importance of kindness and service, particularly in challenging times.

"I, too, experience the thoughtfulness of service and the tenderness of care, especially from doctors and healthcare workers, whom I sincerely thank from the bottom of my heart," the 88-year-old pontiff said.

In a report by AFP, the Vatican announced that Francis was showing signs of improvement in his health, with his condition gradually stabilizing over several days.

He has also resumed a prescribed diet, including solid foods, as part of his recovery process.

Despite his absence from public appearances, visitors continue to gather at St. Peter’s Square, where he traditionally delivers the Angelus prayer.

Francis missed delivering a fourth straight Angelus prayer on Sunday as volunteers and well-wishers remain steadfast in their prayers for the pope’s full recovery.(Nikelyn Pahayahay. BiPSU Comm Inter)
