THOSE heading to cemeteries for this year’s Undas should prepare for possible rains.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts wet weather conditions in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao next week.
The state weather bureau said on Saturday, Oct. 25, that rain showers and thunderstorms are likely during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
This is due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a weather system bringing moist air and scattered rains across the archipelago.
“We see that rains are possible on Undas. This may be caused by the ITCZ or the formation of a weather disturbance,” said Pagasa weather forecaster Leanne Loreto.
However, Loreto clarified that the forecast may still change as the weather pattern remains unpredictable.
“The uncertainty of this weather scenario during Undas is still high,” she said, urging the public to stay tuned for updates.
In its latest regional outlook, Pagasa said Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands, and the Negros Island Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms this weekend due to the ITCZ.
The rest of the Visayas, including Metro Cebu, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rain showers or thunderstorms from October 25 to 29, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C and light to moderate winds from the southeast to east.
Meanwhile, the shear line, the convergence of warm and cold air, will affect extreme Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies and rain over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
The rest of Luzon will remain mostly dry but could still experience isolated rains due to the easterlies.
With millions expected to visit cemeteries nationwide,
Pagasa reminded the public to plan ahead and be prepared for sudden downpours.
“Monitor advisories, especially if you’re traveling to provinces or visiting outdoor areas,” Loreto said.
The weather bureau said the ITCZ and shear line could persist through early next week, with generally light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas across most of the country.(TGP)
