CEBU will continue to experience rain and thunderstorms until the weekend due to the prevailing shear line affecting the Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
In its regional weather outlook, Pagasa forecasts cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms across Cebu on Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23.
Winds will be moderate to strong from the northeast to north, while coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Temperature readings will range from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius on Saturday, slightly dropping to 25 to 28 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
An improvement in weather conditions is expected starting Monday, March 24, as the shear line weakens.
From March 24 to March 26, temperatures will rise to 26 to 31 degrees Celsius, with winds shifting to light to moderate from the northeast to east.
The ongoing weather disturbance is bringing rain to several parts of Cebu, including Cebu City and neighboring areas such as Compostela, Liloan, Balamban, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Toledo City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga City, and Pinamungajan.
Further south, rain is also expected in San Fernando, Carcar City, Aloguinsan, Barili, Sibonga, Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Moalboal, Argao, Dalaguete, and Badian.
According to reports, the shear line, where warm and cold winds converge, has been affecting Cebu and other parts of the Visayas since March 19 and may last until Sunday. It brings moderate rain, with occasional heavy downpours in some areas.
Pagasa advised residents to remain vigilant, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, as occasional heavy rain may still occur. The agency continues to monitor weather conditions and will issue further updates as necessary.(TGP)
