ALMOST all residents in Central Visayas are now registered to the PhilSys or the national ID system, marking a rare feat in government registration initiatives.
The Philippine Statistics Authority-Central Visayas (PSA-7) announced on Thursday, December 23, that it has recorded 7,038,888 registrants, achieving an 99.97 percent of its regional target population.
The figure, recorded from 2022 up until October this year, brings the region just shy of its 7.04 million registration goal for 2024.
Of the total number, Cebu province topped the registration numbers with 4,452,941 residents, followed by Negros Oriental with 1,264,312, Bohol 1,224,081, and Siquijor 97,554.
Alongside registration, the agency issued 4,501,124 national ID cards and 2,445,624 paper-format IDs, which serve as valid proof of identity and age for various transactions.
To reach more citizens, PSA maintains walk-in registrations at centers across the region, conducts mobile registrations, partners with institutions, and participates in caravans to serve remote areas.
Registered citizens can also generate their digital national ID at https://national-id.gov.ph/.
The agency reminded that the digital version is equally valid for identification in government and private transactions, subject to authentication.
