WHO will be the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief?
This question is about to be answered as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has already chosen a successor to Gen. Rommel Marbil, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has confirmed.
While the official announcement is still pending, Remulla stated that the President has made his decision, underscoring the importance of strong leadership within the police force.
In a report by Philstar, Remulla said the incoming PNP chief is a seasoned officer with a proven leadership record. He added that the President’s decision was made after careful consultation, with input from various stakeholders, but that the final choice was left to Marcos.
Remulla emphasized the need for continuity in the PNP’s leadership, noting that frequent changes in the position often result in abrupt shifts in policy direction.
"We need someone with a consistent and clear vision that can outlast any administration," he said in the report.
Marbil’s term, which was extended by four months in January, is set to conclude on June 7.
Alongside the appointment of the new PNP chief, Remulla revealed that the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is working on a new PNP Reform Law, which aims to modernize the force’s policies. He particularly pointed out that the 1992 law that integrated the PNP and the Integrated National Police is outdated and requires an update to address today’s security and technological challenges.(MyTVCebu)
