"BYE."
This was the final word shared by Lee Yoo-joo on her Instagram before her tragic passing on Tuesday, February 18.
The South Korean yoga instructor, known for her appearance on the reality show "Infinite Challenge," was 35.
Her yoga studio, Yogaum, confirmed the news the following day with a statement on Instagram: “We have a sudden heartbreaking news to share. Teacher Lee Yoo-jo passed away yesterday (Feb. 18).”
The studio also shared that, per her family’s wishes, there would be no wake or funeral. Instead, a space would be set up at the studio for those who wished to pay their respects.
“Please pray that the soul of teacher Lee Yoo-joo, who brightened the world with her special talent, can rest in peace,” the statement read.
Fans were quick to reflect on Lee's final Instagram post, where she simply wrote the word “Bye” alongside close-up photos of herself. Many felt uneasy about the cryptic message, with some speculating it may have been a forewarning.
The cause of Lee’s death has not been disclosed.
This news follows closely on the heels of another tragic loss in the South Korean entertainment industry. Actress Kim Sae-ron, 24, was reported dead just days before, with authorities confirming her death as a suicide.
Kim’s passing has reignited discussions about the pressures faced by South Korean celebrities, particularly the harsh scrutiny they endure in the media and on social media.
Kim's death has fueled calls for better support for celebrities, focusing on mental health and the need for changes in how they are treated in the public eye.
Lee Yoo-joo’s passing has only added to these concerns, prompting more discussions about what can be done to help public figures navigate the immense pressures they face.(MyTVCebu)
